Isn’t a very low calorie diet or fasting too drastic?Not at all. People who are just 30 pounds overweight have a dramatically increased risk of early death and serious health problems including diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, and cancer. The longer you are overweight the greater your risk for weight related medical conditions. The sooner you lose the weight, the healthier you will be.
Is a very low calorie diet safe?
Numerous studies support the safety of this approach when used in a medical setting and it has the support of well known health organizations such as The National Institute of Diabetes, Digestion, and Kidney Disease; The American College of Sport’s Medicine, and the American Diabetes Association.
How much weight can I expect to lose?
This may be everyone’s top question! The answer: It depends on several factors, including your current weight, age, gender, medical status, and activity level. A loss of 4 to 7 pounds is common in the first week or so and ongoing week loss will be about 3 pounds a week.
What kind of diet will I follow?
During the weight loss phase, you will consume a very low calorie diet also called a protein sparing fast made up of low calorie, high protein, low carbohydrate meal replacements that are designed to force your body to burn stored fat as a fuel. These products are in the form of shakes, soups, and bars and are delicious and satisfying.
How will this diet help me lose body fat, not lean muscle tissue?
Ordinarily, your body uses glucose from carbohydrates for energy. When calories and carbohydrates are limited, your body is forced to burn its own stored body fat as a fuel. Because the diet is also high in concentrated protein, your body does not need to break down its own muscle tissue for necessary protein. Thus, you lose fat and maintain your muscle mass.
Will I be hungry?
Most clients report that their hunger diminishes or disappears within the first week of the program due to the presence of free fatty acids in the blood stream and reduced food temptations. Also, the high protein and low carbohydrate composition of the products help suppress appetite.
Am I likely to keep the weight off?
There are four behaviors that radically increase your chances of keeping the weight you have lost off. They are: attending the maintenance program for support and accountability, exercising regularly, eating a diet low in fat and high in fruits and vegetables, and managing your stress. Our maintenance program will help develop, practice, and embody these habits.
