I’ve had a weight challenge, for what seems like forever. Out of high school and college, I weighed about 200. Over the years, I kept gaining and peaked at about 315. I had a wake-up call in 1986, when I weighed 285. My excess weight was exacerbating the pain in an arthritic hip, which without a weight loss, would have meant an immediate hip replacement, at age 42. I entered a weight loss program (500 calories, via 5 shakes per day), and got down to around 220. I had my hip replaced in 1998, but in the intervening years I did two more stints on the 500 calorie per day program, because I ballooned up to 260. My arthritis caused me to have major back surgery in 2010 and, then in 2013, my knees started to pain me. In early 2014, my doctor recommended I lose weight to relieve the pressure on my knees. He indicated he had a patient who had success with a Medifast type program.
After doing some research, I called Nancy, at Lifetime Health in mid-March 2014. My weight was about 240. I liked that the program was one on one, with no weekly lectures - I’d been through that several times before. I chose the 800 calorie per day food program (eliminating the periodic medical monitoring via blood draws). There were lots of food choices. I think the weekly weigh-ins are very important, to hold yourself accountable, but not to beat yourself up when you have an “off” week. Nancy is so easy to work with, and very supportive. During the summer of 2014 I got down to about 190 and now eat regular food, with nutrition bars, to replace various meals during the week. My knees feel a lot better. But, I still try to see Nancy every week, to weigh-in, pick-up more bars and to get her positive thoughts and encouragement. I’m so very pleased that I chose Lifetime Health!
